92.5 and other random things...

This is the number of miles I must run each month to  reach my goal of 1111 miles run in 2011.  I have never set a specific miles goal nor have I ever track my mileage for a whole year.  I am very excited to see what the next year brings in terms of my running.  I have big things  planned in terms of racing and training and I think this goal will help me stay motivated especially on mornings like today when it was 11 with a windchill of 2.

Speaking of cold weather running I think it is time for me to invest in one of these

I never would believe that I would get one of these because as much as I try I just cant enjoy running on the treadmill.  However, it is going to be a cold long winter and J is going to be gone alot between work and school.  I have a training plan to stcik to and I think the treadmill maybe the only way to go.  So I am on the lookout for good treadmill that doesnt breal the bank. Any suggestions??

Speaking of suggestions, I have been getting some great comments on my blog lately and it makes me happy ( takes so little sometimes).  Anyways  I am confused on how to comment back to people...do I just comment back in the comments ?  Or do I something else and what is that??  People are providing some great feedbacka nd I dont want them to feel ignored...   I am probably over analyzing this too much as I dont most things..,, thats me!

Lastly, I am starting my training for my marathon next week and I am debating between two plans:

Run Less Run Faster

I am leaning toward the Run Less Run Faster but I want to get feedback and insight from others.  What training plan did you do for your first marathon?  Would you recommend it?

Enough rambling...

Have a great night!

  1. I am training right now for my first half, I am in week 7 of H Higdon plan and so far I like it a lot, took 5 min of my time at my last 10k on Sunday. I know not the same as Marathon but probably same approach..

  2. I am training for my 4th & 5th half right now & Im using the train less run faster program. So far, I love it, and I still have 9 weeks to go! I have gotten much faster, and like the free time I have for cross training. Its completely kept me from getting burnt out. good luck choosing!

  3. I used Hal Higdon...i like the way it is all spelled out for you. as far as treadmills go i have a life fitness that was my birthday present this year which i love, my friend has a sole and that has really great reviews and someone I know just bought the nordic trac and they had a good review. it is definitely easier to have one. my husband travels and I have a 4 year old who is not in school everyday and sometimes it is easier to just hop on. good luck. which marathon did you decide on?

  4. I'm planning on using Hal Higdon, losely, though, I'm not sure I can do two rest days. I'd get figety and nuts.

  5. I am using Higdon now for my first but using the intermediate plan because I can handle the extra miles. I'm with you on the treadmill - it's a necessary evil but I have only run inside twice this month and short runs. I cannot imagine doing an 11 mile run on it. I'm not unhappy with my nordictrack treadmill from costco but if I were to do it again, I would probably buy a much more expensive unit. I disagree that the overall miles will keep you motivated. The miles don't motivate me, I just do them because I have to in the plan. What motivates me is other races leading up to the marathon so I suggestion signing up for races throughout your training. Some I race and some I will just make a training run. Good luck!

  6. Is your goal to run a faster marathon? I'm not too familiar with the run less, run faster program. It does seem like it would fit your schedule better with just three days of running each week. Higdon's plan seems like it would better prepare you to go the distance.

  7. Treadmills are great for those times you just can't get outside. But I agree, it's not as fun. I have a Pro Form and have had it for 10 years. It's still going strong and I love it. I'm sure a new one would be even better!
I used the FIRST training program that sounds similar to the Run Less one. It was great and I think it prevented me from running too much and getting injured.
But I've looked at Hal Higdon's and it looks good too. I think bottom line is that if you follow any program then you'll be just fine.

  8. I forgot to comment about the comments! Some of my favorite bloggers do it both ways. They answer back in the original post in the comments but somethings I forget to even look there again so I miss it. But it is good because then later commenters know the answer as well. Some reply back in a comment on my blog to make sure I know they answered. And who doesn't like getting comments on their blog? So I think either way is good. Sometimes I end up doing both!

  9. As a running coach, I'd personally pick Hal's over Run Less....I personally feel you need the "junk" miles mixed in with those quality miles.

I'm not sure I could run without my treadmill, we are pretty good friends. I have bad allergies, though, and it's hard for me to be outdoors many times.

just checking to see if you sent and/or received your blog gift exchange gift yet? Just reply back to his message and let me know.

    Happy Weekend!!!

  10. Yes Jill I have sent mine and I just recieved mine today... I am going to post about it tomorrow.
